After Winter Comes Spring

After Winter Comes Spring

This chalk animation displays the certain annual cycle of hibernation in nature. As we lose a generation to emigration we can look at this natural cycle for reassurance. This generation haven’t had time to establish themselves, they couldn’t survive in this economic climate and they leave this country in the hard times, with the hope that they will once again return, back to the familiar, in better times.

Displacement Series

Displacement Series

The Displacement Series is created using the altered image of the bare winter tree from the tree cycle pattern. The bare winter tree represents the emigrants who have left this country due to the hard economic season that we current find ourselves in. Yet like a cold winter, this will eventually pass and spring will come. Each painting in the series is named after a friend of mine who has had to emigrate and each winter tree in the painting represents their struggle and story. The use of black and white embodies the choice they had to make, to stay or go?

Tree Pattern

The tree pattern displays the cycles that we will encounter through life. Emigration is embodied in the winter trees, although as bleak as it may appear spring is on the horizon. These cycles are endless yet predictable, which is expressed through pattern.
